about me
Caroline Bates is a New York–based writer and director whose work explores ambition, womanhood, nostalgia, and the complicated pull of home. A graduate of Northwestern University’s Radio/Television/Film program, her filmmaking is shaped by experience across directing, producing, cinematography, and development.
Her short film SPACE COAST, a coming-of-age story set against the decline of Florida’s space-shuttle economy, won the Chicago Award at the Chicago International Film Festival’s CineYouth Festival. She has since worked on feature films including THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 and produced the Super 8 documentary AMERICAN DENDRITE.
Her visual style is also informed by music and fashion, having worked on music videos for Addison Rae, The Dare, Tate McRae, and Amber Mark, and editorial shoots featuring Sabrina Carpenter and Doja Cat. Across her work, Caroline is drawn to characters caught between who they are, who they are expected to become, and the places they are trying to leave behind.
